Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the study of the mechanics of body movements. Kinesiologists create exercise programs to aid in the rehabilitation process of any injuries. Working alongside the physiotherapy team, we will provide a specific exercise program tailored to you individually.

Together, we will ensure that you are doing the right exercises the right way at the right time for your stage of recovery. While working with us, you can expect to learn proper exercise form while performing various activities that will improve your strength, endurance and mobility and how this transfers to daily activities. We will work closely with your physiotherapist to make sure we both understand the injury that we are dealing with and utilize their suggestions while creating your specific program. We will communicate in order to make sure we are updating them on your progress as it relates to your treatment and recovery. This allows for the appropriate progression of your gym and home programs.

What would a typical kinesiology session be like?

  • Check in and update us on how everything is going in relation to how the last session was and how any home exercises are provided by the physiotherapist or me.

  • Exercise in the gym based on what we identify the focus for that day should be based on your progress. i.e. is there anything you maybe can’t do at home or need assistance with?

  • I would recommend wearing clothes you are comfortable exercising in, running shoes, a water bottle or any other items you may need specifically related to your exercise, which would be discussed.

  • This is an excellent opportunity to get one-on-one time and not only learn some new and innovative exercises but also to ask any exercise-related questions.

Our goal will be to work on recovering from your current injury, trying to prevent future injuries, and improving your overall health. Not only can we work on specific injuries, but we also have the ability to work on general systems such as cardiovascular health, flexibility, balance, muscular strength, etc.

Why come see a Kinesiologist?

Not only can you visit a kinesiologist for exercises specific to your injury rehabilitation process but you can also visit us to work on general fitness. Maybe you want to get back into the gym but aren’t sure how to use the equipment or what exercises are good for you, or you want a program you can do at home with whatever equipment you have available to you.

Whether your goal is to build strength, improve your muscular endurance, or improve cardiovascular health. We can tailor a program specifically to help you achieve those goals.
